U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, who chairs the Senate’s Small Business Committee, opposes the delay. The reform “will aid thousands of retailers and small businesses who find interchange fees to be unreasonable, unpredictable and eating away at their already very slim profit margins,” Landrieu, of Louisiana, said via email to The Times.
The reform still allows the fees to be adjusted for fraud prevention costs. It also includes an exemption for smaller banks with assets under $10 billion in assets and, thereby, “exempts almost all of the banks in Louisiana,” Landrieu said.
Bottom line, keep the reforms as written and on schedule.
